Yes! satisfied customers that return every year and want more pain. Well here is your chance to have some of the above.

Tour of Flanders Weekend and Sportive. 2nd-4th April.

Travel by shuttle and car on the Friday, have a warm up ride near Oudenaarde in the afternoon and then sign on for the sportive before travelling to the Station hotel in Aalst. (Mad Barts)

Saturday we will have a gentle warm up along the canal path to Ninove, where we start the Flanders Sportive, you have a choice of three distances and a chance to ride the famous cobblestones and climbs that makes the Tour of Flanders such a demanding event. I recommend the 140 kms you are all capable of completing it….or we can bury you out there. There is also a 70km ride or the full blown 250km (which is a bit boring).

Sunday we travel to historic Brugge for the start of the professional race and then head for Geraardsbergen to watch the race come through….it’s a great town with lots of atmosphere and a big screen! The race is normally decided on the famous “Muur” climb in the town. Afterwards we head home.

Tap in “Ronde van Vlaanderen” for more info on the event. Cost is about 85 euros for 2 nights hotel, including a good breakfast, also about 20 euros for the sportive, plus petrol, eating and Belgian beer drinking money. I have booked 4 rooms with twin beds.

Breakfast at Bart's

Veurne Social Ride, Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th May.

I found this town earlier this year and it’s a gem of a place only 40 minutes by car from Calais with super cycling country all around. Travel by car via the shuttle with an early start Head for the hotel….then ..the idea is to have a 50 mile ride heading towards Ostende on the Wednesday, then dinner in Veurne in the evening.

The next day another 50 “ish” miles towards Cassel with lunch, followed by the trip home. I want to stress that this is not a burn up trip but social, club run paced rides for all members.

Cost, we stay at the Hotel de Loft in Veurne….it has good reviews and will be about 40 euros per person including breakfast plus petrol, food and more Belgian beer. I have booked 4 rooms with twin beds and will need a £20 deposit.

Paris- Roubaix Sportive, Saturday 5th to Monday 7th June.

165 miles with 40 miles of cobblestones

WARNING!!! This trip is for the mentally unstable only.

Travel to our hotel in Lille on the Saturday, go to bed then leave in the middle of the night for a 140 mile transfer to the start near Compiegne. Arrive, sign on and start riding the sportive.…

6am start, which finishes at the famous velodrome (you can pretend you are Boonen or Cancallera or Museew) in Roubaix (3 miles from Lille.) Dinner in Lille that evening…..fall asleep. Monday bit of shopping and then home. (if you can still walk).

Cost. 2 nights hotel in Lille plus petrol plus entry to the sportive…about 28 euros, plus food and French beer.

Paris Roubaix 2009 highlights and crashes

Tour De France trip, Friday 9th to Friday 16th July.

A chance to see 4 stages, 3 in the mountains and one start. We will be driving down early Friday morning to our base at the Hotel Notre Dame des Eaux in Aix-le-Bains which is on the largest natural lake in France.

Hopefully a couple of hours ride that afternoon.

Saturday, cycle and watch the finish of stage 7, at the summit of the ski station at Rousses.

Sunday, cycle and watch the finish of stage 8 at the summit of Avoriez, Morzine.

Monday, a days riding……somewhere.

Tuesday, cycle and watch stage 9 and the race come over the famous Col de Madelaine.

Wednesday, See the start of stage 10, 3 miles away in Chambery, a chance to get close to the riders….you can even touch them….though they may hit you if you do. Then a days riding.

Thursday, a days riding.

Friday, shopping and then home.

We always have a good time on these T de F trips, nice dinners, a few beers and we go as fast as the slowest rider so don’t feel your not up to it! Yes the mountains are hard climbing, but there is great satisfaction when you make the top.(Gary knows some good bus shelters to sleep in) All are welcome.

Cost. 7 nights @43 euros per night including breakfast. Petrol plus tolls, food and the odd glass of wine or beer. I have booked 5 rooms with twin beds and will need a £30 deposit. I will do this on a first come first served basis and endeavour to book more rooms if need be…..it may not be possible.

Hotel in Aix les Bains

A typical French road

None of the rides are set in stone we can always improvise but I think it’s good to have a set plan. Any questions please ring me on 01689 829329 or e-mail me at terencesowa@tiscali.co.uk. All details will be on our website.
