Vets racing at Hog Hill - 15-05-2009
Thursday 14th May saw the start of the new Thursday Evening Series at Hog Hill for Vets. A good turnout on a warm, muggy and fairly windy evening. Three groups started, the C's & D's first, then the A's & B's and bringing up the rear, the over 60's. Initially it was to be raced over the full circuit, clock-wise, but happily it was on the flat lower circuit. Looks like it might stay down there as we were asked afterwards which circuit would we prefer. During my warm-up I was on the look-out for more West Kenters, and even on the start line still looking, but I was the only one. Bereft of friendly faces, I was resigned to a lonely 45 minutes plus 3 laps. How right I was. By the second corner I was floundering at the back, looking for a wheel. They had gone off chasing the C's & D's and weren't waiting for anyone. I spent most of the race in a group of three, working well together and trying to get my £6 worth. Eventually, we let the others join us. They were still charging around, but I was just able to hang on til the end, finishing a creditable nowhere. Great fun and I'll certainly be going again. But, as we Flandrians say, it is "early season". I would encourage any West Kent Vets to go along and join in, but would advise you get through the Dartford Crossing by 17:00 latest to get you to the circuit in time.more news articles...
