As the warmer weather approaches (I have to have hope!) attention turns to club runs and how best to manage them. It is generally accepted that change is necessary, so no need to use this forum to go on the offensive, just use it constructively...

Team entry filling up fast - 09-01-2008

It was a good turn out at the club night yesterday. Alan Brown was carrying his identicard and selling all manner of cycle kit out of his big holdall with a few more pairs of gloves sold. We really should send him out door to door with some tea towels and dishcloths to raise some funds for the club. Peter did a reasonable trade in time trial handbooks and there was talk of a few people racing this coming season.

The team entry to the Chilterns Sportive has been well received with a number of members signing up so as to give themselves a target to aim for. I suspect there will be slightly less hilarity on the day when they have done some 70 miles with 30 still to go and are feeling shattered. So far there are ten who are confirmed and a couple who have given placeholder entries whilst they review their racing calendar for the year.

And so on to the gossip and rumours that we all love. Gary Stewart is now getting bored after a few weeks of day time tv and resting his wrist. Thursday is his big day for plaster removal and Gary will be at the reliability trial on Sunday to help sign in. Given his lack of wrist strength he may struggle to hold even a pen so if any members have a suggestion as to how to make best use of Gary and a limp wrist on the day answers on a postcard please....

It took several years of persuasion before the club persuaded Mick Hardy and Antonio The Great (his words not mine!) to become regulars on the club scene. The rumours started last night that the squad may receive a further boost during the transfer window with a big name signing. It sounded very cloak and dagger with suggestions of a cyclist in black cycling gear. As soon as Rumourmill hears more you'll see it here - if you hear anything yourself give me a nod.

If anybody is selling a van with eight seats or so please let Alan know. I am sure you would agree that it would be great to have a team mini bus if only to collect Steve and Gary from the foot of Ide Hill. Those who have seen Alan's garage will be aware that there is plenty of storage room once the junk is cleared out of the way !!!
