Rumourmill on beetroots and delayed holiday plans - 10-08-2009

If you thought Alex looked a little red in the face on club runs and thought he was a little puffed out, think again. Alex has been doing his research and has discovered that beetroot juice can help you to go longer - on the bike that is. Tests are showing a 2% reduction in time for a similar bike ride performed without the juice. Further details are online at http://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/news/title,37371,en.php

Which veteran club member has delayed his holiday so as to fit in the vets road race at Tenterden? Said member has been fed up with riding the events with the mixed age groups as it makes it harder to know who to mark. That combined with short faster courses that result in bunch sprints rather than a whittled down field. The Tenterden event is run with different age groupers riding their own race rather than with all age groups and includes a couple of lumps that should split the field. So whilst the rest of the family head away for their hols, this racer will be waiting until the Monday. Dedication to the cause.

Whilst some 21 members were on the club run this Sunday, Terry and Laurie were enjoing a LVRC road race at Hogs hill and acquitted themselves rather well. Terry put in a top ten finish in the bunch sprint and Laurie was just behind. Well done boys.
