As the warmer weather approaches (I have to have hope!) attention turns to club runs and how best to manage them. It is generally accepted that change is necessary, so no need to use this forum to go on the offensive, just use it constructively...

Rumourmill on all the gossip plus racing results - updated for Laurie - 08-06-2009

Rumourmill has heard from various sources that a club member has developed a reputation for arriving a little late for sporting events. This was originally formed by his arrival at a sportive an hour after the rest of the club. More recently I have heard that a training session was missed due to an oversleep. Perhaps more importantly he used the late card to duck out of a Thursday evening race at Hogs Hill. Running half an hour late he was stuck in traffic and never made it to the start line. Rumourmill is wondering if there is any point in trying to shame him into changing his ways.

Pete Thomas is putting in the mileage and on the bank holiday weekend cycled 250 miles to Brecon with his family following on by car. It can't have done him any harm as on Thursday 4th June he rode a 23.15 in the VC Elan 10 for a season's best. This was followed up with a 23-28 on Saturday 6th at the ECCA 10 on the E2 and again on the Sunday with a 1-01-56 at the ECCA 25 on the E2.

Alan Brown has also been out on the bike and on Wednesday 10th rode a 25.23 on the Bexley 10. On Thursday Alan managed a 24.23 which may be a county age best. For those at club night who heard in graphic detail about Alan's undercarriage sufferings, it looks as though this has no impact during a 10.

News just in from Laurie Toombes is that he managed a 25.38 on the Bexley course last Wednesday. That was exactly the same time as the fortnight previously. You could not do that if you tried!

Tony Meilak continued his good form and claimed bronze at the KCA 50 with a time of 2.09.43. Having spoken with Tony at club night, he is expecting to peak at the end of the month. Alan Brown was saved by a puncture at the same event.

As ever at this time of year there is a search for marshalls at events that the club is supporting. Volunteers are needed for two events. Sunday June 28 the club is helping to put on a road race and help is needed. If you are able to lend a hand please contact Kevin Barnett. At the same time can you remind Kevin that he has yet to renew his membership for this year?

The weekend after is the youth games at Crystal Palace and Eddie Land is responsible for marshalls. Saturday 4th with a start at 8am. If you come along you will even get to see Rumourmill's smiling face.

A hail storm on the bike leg left Claire suffering in the cold at the national sprint triathlon this Sunday. A warm bath was in order for our triathlete who claimed a silver in her age group and who can proudly claim to have finished 12th overall at the Nationals.
