Oasis and club run stories - 29-07-2010
Len Smith turned up at the Oasis cafe today-
possibly his first ride since having his 11year old pace maker replaced. Ed
asked him whether this one was a 1st Cat racer model. Len smiled and said "I
hope so". Len is I believe, our oldest rider-only a couple of years short of
eighty.
Geof Waterfiled was also there, hadn't seen him for
weeks. Not on the bike today but he is still going out on short rides several
times a week. He doesn't let his damaged lungs stop him.
That's want we want - more Dunkirk Spirit as demostrated by Len and Geoff.
On Sunday whilst we were sitting at the same table
as Mick Hardy, at Spadeworks Cafe, he elaborated on his own special pre ride
preparation. Not only does Mick hydrate the night before a Sunday ride by
downing 6 pints of beer aided by a few cheese sandwiches but on the morning before
it's a case of consuming a kipper or two, or was it more - Ed's stomach
churned rapidly at the thought of pre ride kippers ( they are great but not before a
ride!).
Is Mick supporting the British Fishing Industry.
Perhaps we ought to give him the nickname 'Mr Kipper'.
