Club run to Rye - 09-06-2007
Last Saturday was an attempt to add some variety to the club calendar with a ride to Rye. Three riders - Anthony, Terry and Claire met at Otford railway station and started the ride with Claire turning back after an hour so as to study.
The ride was fast with plenty of flat sections and small rises. Terry took the sprint on the royal military canal having wondered why Anthony had left him on the front for so long only to come past at speed just a mile or so from Rye. Lunch was taken on the battlements at the top of Rye town overlooking the river and taking plenty of time to relax in the sun.
The same route was taken for the return although by this stage the legs were slightly heavier. Small country lanes took us towards Horsmonden and then Yalding. By the end of the day Anthony had done some 105 miles with Terry doing an extra 12 or so for the extension to Orpington.
It seems that Terry had a mishap on his return to Orpington as the council had resurfaced the lanes around Shoreham. This caused Terry to come off and in doing so he managed to put his rear derailleur through his wheel. This was in such a state that Terry needed to call his wife to come and collect both him and the bike.
Both riders had a fantastic day and it was agreed that another ride will be organised during the Summer to another seaside location. Other riders will be more than welcome to come along - the more the merrier.
