Club run report May 9 - 11-05-2010
The club run of Sunday 9th May.
Another cold day greeted us as we congregated behind the King’s filling station on the A20.
Our President turned up to take the role call and greet any new faces-none this time round. The head count was in the order of 14 with Roy and Jim taking a direct route to the scheduled stop at the stables.
The rest of us were due to go to the stables too but on realising I (Ed) was going to leave them part way round to go on to Sitingbourne via Yalding to meet up with family friends it was suggested that we all rode towards Yalding as a way to get some decent milage in. This idea then developed into riders deciding to stop for tea in Yalding - at least the café is heated came the call. Alex said he would ring Alan B to tell him of the change of plan as Alan had said he was going to drive up to the stables to meet us. We don’t know whether Alex and Graham stopped to call Alan or quite what but we lost track of them by Seal and by the time Ed had to leave the café (11.30) to get on to Sittingbourne neither Alex or Graham was to be seen.
We took the straightforward route through Ivy Hatch, Plaxtol, Hadlow and East Peckham.
I for my part, after my short stop with the lad’s set off for Sittingbourne soon after the fine rain had started. From Yalding into Shingle Barn, Coxheath, Chart Corner, Leeds Castle, ascend Hollingbourne hill, into Hazel St, Danaway and thence onto my destination in Newington.
As per usual the club won’t win a medal in formation cycling with riders being strung out over several hundred yards at times. Well certainly so once on a hill.
Comments about any ride are welcome, in fact encouraged.
In terms of routes to take to any café those coming forward with ideas are: Terry, Mick, Phil, Mack and Ed. We do need riders who want to take a more casual pace to come to the meeting point with route ideas so that we can have two rides or more if the numbers and or rider needs demand it.
If anybody want’s to bash away at the keyboard to log what happened on the way home please do so and email to Antony at his gmail address.
STOP PRESS: Alex is still alive. Apparently his chain broke as he was leaving the environs of Otford and it wrecked his rear mech, so it was an emergency repair and off home to contemplate then whole that would appear in his bank balance as he ordered a new mech and chain. Get a KMG chain Alex, will cost about 30 notes but they currently have the reputation of being the best. Ed
